This may well be a
small-scale recording studio like no other.... situated in a beautiful, quiet
corner of Dorset, with permaculture gardens & a magical energy that affects
most who visit.
I first created this project studio in order
to record my own music; having discovered that my writer's block was down to
the fact that I needed to sing what I have to say! Since then I have also used
the equipment to record music for others who have visited here & friends
who live locally. |
|
|
I now feel keen to open up these facilities
to other musicians who are working for a better world & who would truly
appreciate these beautiful surroundings while creating their music. |
|
|
We are situated in 14 acres of land which
hasn't been ploughed for a very long time.... hence the abundance of flora
here. We also have plenty of resident wildlife; badgers live less than a
hundred metres from the mobile home & foxes wander around the orchard,
sometimes in broad daylight. Birds there are a plenty, pheasants wander through
the gardens & the pond teems with wildlife too. There are magical places to
explore here. Hidden away is a quiet meditation space alongside the stream
where a beautiful living willow dome can also be found. |
|
 |
|
|
There is a large spiral in the orchard next
to the yurt, that has already been walked by a lot of people & according to
a few sensitive people who have visited here at different times, there are
faery folk around too..... |

My project studio (for those who'd like to
know) is based around a Carillon AC-1 Audio PC running Cubase SX & Wavelab
4.0 & uses an Edirol DA-2496 (8 in / 8 out) interface. This gives me, along
with various outboard modules & a Yamaha Motif 6 master keyboard, a great
deal of flexibility in multitrack digital recording & editing at very high
resolution (up to 24 bit/96Khz). I can record either in the studio, or outside
(but currently restricted to the limits of mains cabling) by using a portable 8
track digital hard-disk based recorder, the recordings from which can later be
transfered to the PC for further editing. |
|
|
I can provide anything from a basic one-off
stereo live recording, to multitrack work, editing, mixing & mastering
(with as much or little creative input as required); single tracks or whole
albums. |
|
|
As an end product, I can produce either DATs
or Red book compatible CDRs (the standard required to be copied from
professionally) to take away for mastering or reproduction yourself. I can also
produce relatively small runs of CDRs (up to 50, or maybe 100) here &
possibly also deal with CD artwork if required too. All costings are open to
negotiation. I am aiming to make a living from doing things that serve the
greater good & so my time would be an important parameter. I won't be able
to provide the kind of service that you would get from a fully professional
studio, but then you won't be paying anything like those prices either!

Give me an idea of what you would like to do
& I'll send you some costings.... |

Staying
here:
Seasonally grown organic salads, fruit &
vegetables are available from our permaculture gardens here & 'food art' is
one of my favourite activities. More exotic organic fruit & veg etc can be
bought in the nearby town of Bridport just 5 miles away, along with any other
supplies. From Bridport it is only another mile or so to the seaside & the
local lanes around here are ideal for cycling.
|
Ethical diets are no problem. I myself
have been vegan for 20 years & have followed a raw diet on & off for 7
years now. Those who appreciate good fruit & vegetable juices will value
the opportunity to use my Green Star juicer & I also have an Excalibur
Dehydrator & a Nut & Seed milk maker. |

|
|
Although we have a septic tank for sewage,
we also have several beautifully made tree bogs (compost toilets that are
planted around with Willows) in the main field. These were built for the
regular camps that occur here throughout the year, but I much prefer to use
them, as they are more environmentally sustainable than a septic tank &
they also offer great views of the surrounding countryside. |
|
|
Various different types of accommodation are
available here. Highly recommended (& not just by me!) is my 16' diameter
yurt (shown below) which is fitted with a beautiful woodburner & solar
powered lighting (from a panel on the roof). This is available from early
Spring to late Autumn. There is also space to sleep in one of the barns (better
than it sounds!) or camping for your own tents if preferred. Rooms are
sometimes available in the farmhouse. A self-contained space is also soon to be
created by a conversion of one of the outbuildings. Again, tell us your
requirements & we'll give you an idea of costings. There are also local
B&Bs just a few minutes drive away. |
