Biological Resources - Mint

In permaculture we use natural methods & processes to achieve a task. We minimise our work by finding flora or fauna that already enjoy doing what we want to achieve & encourage them to do it for us. Resources are stored energies (e.g green manures, lakes, fuelwood). Living things (including humans) are the only effective way of intercepting natural energies to capture such resources & to produce a yield. By deliberately planting & attracting particular species in our gardens we can enrich the soil, increase growth, control pests & diseases & create a surplus to share with others. Here mint is being used en-masse as a ground cover plant in a forest garden, where it protects the soil & helps to repel the pests of the fruit trees above it.
