Biological Resources - Living Willow Structures

Nature cycles everything, so any wastes are always utilised usefully somewhere else. Leaves that fall from trees are broken down & used as food by fungi & the soil is in turn nourished, feeding the growth of the plants on the ground & so on. In permaculture we design using biological resources wherever we can as they minimise the work we need to do & produce no pollution. Here Willow wands have been planted in the ground & then woven together to create a fence. In a relatively short time the Willow will grow together to provide a strong barrier & provide a regular harvest of new wands for use elsewhere; maybe to create other living structures like tunnels, domes or even garden chairs!
