Relative Location - Microclimates Gardeners have long since known that we can create more favourable growing conditions for plants by placing them in sheltered spots or against heat storing walls. These favourable areas are called microclimates & we can create our own too. |

Here we see two useful assets for the gardener, the shed wall & the pond. The shed has been painted a dark green to help it blend in more & to increase it's heat retention. A trellis has been attached a little in front of it for climbing plants to benefit from the reflected & retained heat. The soil from digging out the pond has been turned into a rockery on the windward side to provide some shelter to the pond plants behind it. |
