These are areas that need to be visited fairly regularly to care for the animals, prune trees, harvest fruit etc. but not to the same degree that the intensive garden in Zone 1 does. Then further out in Zone 3 we might find main crops that need even less regular attention, maybe just a few visits a year. Of course, the idea of zoning can be applied to many other situations too, not just our land-based designs.
